As we were members of the Yorkshire Radio Controlled Model Racing Car Club, who have an excellent track facility in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, the report below is from the meeting held on the 4th of March 2001.
Racing at our local club is available to all and further details can be found at the YRCMCRC website.
A good day was had by almost all at the monthly meeting today, with a good attendance seeing heats and finals for all. Although I missed a few of the previous meetings, I did notice the improvements in the parking areas, which will be welcomed by all.
Although it was cold and we have had some snow, the track was clear and breakages seemed to be minimal. “Rusty” (John Russell) seems to have found his true vocation in life in keeping the track clear of snow and directing the racers at the start of races.
As can be seen in the pictures, the pits were a hive of activity. As well as clearing snow and directing racers, Rusty was, as usual, also kept busy using his skills in troubleshooting and supplying parts for the members cars.
Many of the large scale drivers were missing, but we were joined later in the afternoon by one of the top national drivers, John “Chalky” Skidmore, who was showing his youngster around.
A big thank you has to go to the committee and especially John and Muriel Russell for their continued involvement with the club as well as to Anne for keeping the members and visitors fed and watered.
